Sore Muscles: To Rest or Workout...that IS the question.

Image
You are 3 days into your new workout routine and you are SORE! What does that mean? Should you take a rest day to let your muscles heal, and then get back into it? First I want you to consider these two questions:  Am I feeling sore because I am working muscles that I normally do not? Or am I in pain from an injury? One thing we do know is that gains are made by pushing yourself to the limit and then some. It’s the “then some” that is unique to each individual. Each person has a different body type and will have a different threshold for activity and exercise. There are a few things to consider when pushing yourself to get into shape. Factors such as age, baseline strength, and previous injuries will determine what your threshold is. Pushing yourself will result in muscle strength and endurance gains and is often accompanied by a healthy amount of muscle soreness. But it is important that you are able to maintain the proper form when exercising. A good sign of pushing yourself

The Power of Visualization

Image
Lately I have been more aware of the affect that positive thought and visualization has on ones success. Back in the day I would have thought that vision boards, and positive affirmations were a bunch of junk...but back in the day I wasn't achieving my goals. The top performers of all walks of life use visualization to help them achieve their goals. I started practicing visualization this past year, and am an absolute believer in its power. Did you know when you visualize what it is that you want, that you actually activate your creative subconscious? This helps you to get the creative juices flowing that will help you actually reach your goal. Visualization also helps to program your brain so that without even thinking your brain will recognize the resources it will need to fulfill your dreams and goals.  Have you ever watched the movie or read the book, The Secret ? Watching that movie is what made me start this whole visualization thing. I figured even if it did

Don't Work for a Business, Make a Business Work!

I just returned home from a weekend away. I was in Pittsburgh for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's woman of the year gala. My friend and fellow coach Katy had been nominated and a couple of us went to support her. Throughout the weekend I found myself reflecting on how much life has changed over the past three years. I still remember the day I took my first ever 'before pictures'. That day I told myself that, "Today was the first day of the rest of my life". A phrase that had been thrown around so many time before, this time had more meaning attached. I was right...that was the first day of the rest of my life.  Over those three years I lost pounds , gained confidence , and surrounded myself with inspirational people...one of them being Katy! Before taking that initial before picture I was unhappy. I felt unhealthy physically, mentally, and stuck. Instead of working on myself and taking steps to change for the better, I would drink...a lot! It w

Shaun T's CIZE: The End of Exercise!

I like to THINK I can dance hip hop....but I am sure how I look in my head is very different from how it looks in real life. Regardless of how I look doing it, there has always been this want inside of me to really learn to be a good hip hop dancer. I have been to classes and LOVED them. THAT is why I am so excited to share with you all that this July Shaun T who is the creator of Insanity and T25 will be releasing a new hip hop dance based workout program called CIZE. CIZE is a 4 week dance/fitness program that simplifies dance routines so that you can break a sweat and get your groove on. The best part about it is, you forget you are even working out! Workouts range from 35-40 minutes so for people short on time, you can improve your dance game and get your workout on all at the same time! Think you can't dance? Welp, that doesn't really matter! Shaun T simplifies the routine breaking it down step-by-step ultimately building them into a full hip hop dance rou
