I always look forward to Easter with my family. Spring is in the air, the weather is changing, kids are outside playing, and dinner is cooking! All great things...one thing that is not all that great is my sugar addiction. With Easter M&M's, Cadbury eggs, chocolate bunnies, and peeps which now come in colors I didn't even know existed. It would be great if I could just take one and keep on keeping on, but that is not how my brain works. That being said, I need to be a little more mindful around Easter and what I put into my body.
Here are 5 tips to keep you on track this Easter and out of a Peep coma.
1. Hunt For Something Other Than Chocolate
When I was young we colored real Eggs and hunted for those. Although it got awkward when there was always one or two that went missing for a month (yikes), it lessens the amount of chocolate around the house, plus hard boiled eggs are a great snack.
2. Eat Breakfast!
Start your Easter morning off with a healthy breakfast! A veggie egg white omelette or a bowl of oatmeal are good choices instead of saving up calories for the big feast....it just doesn't work that way. When you save up all your calories for one meal you end up overindulging because you are so hungry.
3. Eat What YOU Want To Eat!
I know how it goes...you are doing well, avoiding the plethora of bread and cheese covered appetizers and when the main meal comes around EVERYONE has something to say about how your plate looks. They start pressuring you to add more of all the things you would like to stay away from as if it is personally hurting them that you decide to take proper portions and stick to more greens. The bottom line is, don't give into the pressure. Explain to your host that it is not a personal insult but that you are working hard to stick to a plan EVEN on a holiday. Nonna might not like it, but it is your body!
4. Start the Day With Physical Activity!
Just because it is a holiday doesn't mean that you need to skip your workout. If you can't get your workout in take a walk with the family when you are finished eating.
5. Drink water!
Before you eat, drink at least 8 ounces of water. This will quench your thirst and stop you from eating with your eyes. Many times our body mistakes thirst for hunger, by drinking water first you can avoid this!
