Shakeology: Beyond the Bag

Of course there are tons of great things about the ingredients of Shakeology and what it can do for your body. Today I wanted to give you all a little insight on another reason why I love Shakeology, and Beachbody as a company so much.

This is Darin Olien. He is often called the "Indiana Jones of superfoods" or the "superfood hunter". He is a well known exotics superfood hunter, supplement formulator, and environmental activist who travels the world in search of new and underutilized medicinal plants. He is also one of the creators of Shakeology. 

Darin was introduced to Carl and Isabelle Daikeler and learned that they were on a mission to create a "high-end, no-compromises superfood meal replacement shake like nothing that existed". Together they worked to create the masterpiece which is now known as Shakeology. 

What is cool about Darin and how he finds the ingredients for Shakeology is the process and thought he puts into the entire process. Darin takes 3-4 extended trips a year where he goes in search of ingredients. He meets and works with indigenous farmers all over the world, as well as Third World shamans and healers who use herbs and plants to promote health. 

What's the big deal? What makes HIM and Shakeology different? Well instead of doing what most companies do and finding a big supplier who would sell the ingredients in bulk, Darin goes directly to the source. He gets to know EVERYTHING about the plants being used. He finds out how they are grown, and even gets to know the people who grew and harvested them. Not only is Darin in search of the best ingredients, but he wants to make sure that everyone involved in the process is getting treated fairly and benefiting from the process. You see, what I love about this shake and company so much is that beyond the ingredients lies integrity.  Not only does Darin want to improve the lives of the people who drink Shakeology, but he also wants to improve the lives of the people who provide us with the ingredients. Darin understands that when the people you work with are happy, better relationships and business partners are born. 

Darin negotiates with the native people and finds a solution to benefit both the village, and the product. He works to find the best way to harvest the ingredients so that the most nutrients possible remain, and that everyone involved in the process benefits. 

The fact that he himself travels the world and wants to be a part of the whole experience is pretty bad ass. He is there with the native people, he sees what they go through to get the ingredients, and knows the process, therefor knowing his product inside and out. He's right in the mix, getting his hands dirty and making sure we get the best quality ingredients possible.

So beyond the fact that Shakeology has improved my quality of life by drinking it daily, I am in love with the whole process of how it arrives at my door. I like that I am proud of how it is made, and that I know the creator has the back of the people involved as well as the people drinking it.
