Beachbody Coaching: Weight Loss Shake? Pyramid Scheme? What to believe?

There are LOTS of opinions when it comes to Beachbody coaching. I have heard them all! Today I want to face some of those "opinions" head on.

First, lets talk about "selling weight loss shakes". Shakeology is NOT a weight loss shake, I repeat, shakeology is NOT a weight loss shake!  Lets talk about shakeology for a moment. Although some people may promote shakeology simply as a weight loss shake, doing so really undermines what the product really is. One of the benefits of shakeology is weight loss, but it is by no means a weight loss shake. You won't drink it and magicaly drop ten pounds while still eating fast food and drinking ten beers a night. That is NOT what shakeology is about. Shakeology is actually a health and nutrition shake. When you fuel your body with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to thrive, a funny things happens...your body starts to see some positive side effects. Some of those changes might include weight loss as well as increased energy, improved digestion, increased libido, overall feeling of well being, and decreased cravings for junk. That is just what happens when you provide your body with what it needs to thrive. That could be with shakeology, or a shit ton of fruits, veggies, and superfoods made on your own. I know this NOT because anyone TOLD me, but because I tried it myself and that is what happened to me. The reason coaches like myself promote shakeology is because it was an easy tool that I could implement into my life to start to provide my body with the things that it needed. Because of the way it made me feel, I felt the need to share that with others as well...

Lets move onto that pyramid scheme thing...I will start by saying that just because a business model is set in a pyramid, does NOT make it a scheme! In fact, every business model out there including our government is set in a pyramid.

In any business you have the CEO, President, Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, Store Managers, Department Managers, Clerks and so on. Every position I have ever been in before coaching with Beachbody has been set up in this structure. The only difference is that when I worked for other people I was more toward the manager part instead of the CEO. Did you know that Pyramid "schemes" are actually illegal in the US and that there is a whole section of the government called the FTC that actually protects Americans from falling into a scheme? The difference between a pyramid "scheme" and a legitimate marketing company such as Beachbody is that, 

"They promise consumers or investors large profits based primarily on recruiting others to join their program, not based on profits from any real investment or real sale of goods to the public. Some schemes may purport to sell a product, but they often simply use the product to hide their pyramid structure. There are two tell-tale signs that a product is simply being used to disguise a pyramid scheme: inventory loading and a lack of retail sales." 

This statement comes right from the FTC website. Lets pick it apart for a second and compare it to what Beachbody does. First, the company does NOT promise any large profit for recruiting others to join their program. In fact, anyone who tells you that it is that easy is a liar. In fact, the income of a Beachbody coach is largely determined by the time they are able to dedicate to coaching, their personal skills, determination, and dedication to learning and growing both as a coach and as a business. I will be the first to tell you that it is NOT an easy ride to make a full time income with Beachbody. It takes work just like any other field, the only difference is the freedom. Moving on to the next part of that statement, "Some schemes may purport to sell a product, but they often simply use the product to hide their pyramid structure." 

Anyone who has ever tried a Beachbody program knows that our products are not to HIDE anything...they actually work! We are proud of our products, and our business model. We found something that actually works for the average American. Something that every Joe, Sally, and Harry can fit into their day to day life to combat the increasing problem of obesity and disease that has so ignorantly planted itself in our society. Slowly but surely over the past 20 years products that we see plastered all over television and on your shelves at the grocery store have actually been hurting us. They are causing disease in our people and our country yet because they are on television we choose to trust. 

More than one-third of adults are considered to be obese in the US. Obesity remains one of the biggest threats to the health of our children and our country. Millions of Americans are at an increased risk for chronic diseases. This contributes to up to $210 billion dollars in preventable healthcare spending...which brings me to the part of a coaches, "deep background and education in health and nutrition". I for one am constantly reading the newest studies in journals related to health and nutrition, but I in no way went to college for this. I think the important thing to note is that I am not claiming to be an expert, as a coach I share what worked for me and give my challengers the tools for them to do it on their own and also point them in the direction of proper resources to help them learn more if they choose. 

The webster dictionary defines the word coach as, "someone who instructs or trains". Maybe the word "coach" isn't really fitting for what I do. I am a mentor. I guide my challengers through their health and fitness journey the same way that I went through mine. I give them the tools to succeed and then stand by their side along the way. When they have questions, I find out the answer, when they struggle, I am there to listen, but most importantly I beleive in them when they do not believe in themselves. 

This was an important factor for me in my journey. If it were not for my coach believing in me, believing that I could do it, I would have quit and given up. The fact that I didn't give up completely changed the course of my life for the better. I owe a LOT to my coach for being by my side through my journey. It is THAT reason that I am so passionate about coaching and finding others that want to do the same. Because my coach was by my side, it created a significant change within me which turned into a huge ripple effect with everyone I came into contact with. I always had this dream of helping to change the world, now I truly believe that I am. When someone feels good and on top of their own game they are more likely to go after and achieve the things that they want in their lives and to spread positivity. I see how it has effected me and those around me, and for that reason I spread the message.
