For those of you who don't know I have headed down to Nashville from Boston for the month of August to help my cousin Jo Dee Messina get in shape for an upcoming video shoot. We decided that we were going to do the 21 day fix to get us on track! We both thought this would be perfect for others to see, and follow along with us because it is something that anyone can fit into their daily lives. Jo Dee is extremely busy with touring, and day to day life, so we figured if we could find a way for her to do it, YOU all could do it too! It is hard at first, but once you get the hang of preparing you are good to go!
So I got here on Sunday, and the first thing we did was make our meal plan. We used one that I made in the past, because both Jo Dee and I are both not very picky. Once we had our meal plan set we headed straight to the grocery store to get everything we needed!
We took Sunday night off and let Jo Dee's husband Chris cook us a nice dinner. He loves to cook, and is great at it, but most of what he cooks is not on the fix! So instead of doing food prep we chilled out, and ate dinner in the back yard since we weren't officially starting the 21 days until Tuesday. The view is VERY different from the busy street I live on back home in Boston!
Monday we got down to business. We made sure we had a workout spot ready, and did lots of food prep. I like to have everything cut and ready to go to make things easier for us during the week! Jo Dee also got some wrist bands for all the challengers, so they could look at it and remember we are in this together if they are having a hard time. We took time to mail those out as well. Basically Monday was spent getting everything we could possibly need in order so that when Tuesday rolled around, we were prepared!
We even had a night before the challenge kick off with the team. Jo Dee and I hosted a USTREAM call where challengers could ask us questions about the fix, and whatever else they wanted to know!
When Tuesday came around we were ready to go! Jo Dee got me up bright and early for a run with lots of hills...I hate running, but it was good. After that we headed home for our first meal which was a chocolate shakeology with banana. That is always my favorite meal, even when not on the fix! We followed that up with the first Fix workout, cardio fix, which proved to be harder than Jo Dee expected lol. She even tweeted Autumn, the creator, about it and we got a response...all around good morning!
As I said before, we wanted to show people that no matter how busy you are, as long as you prepare in advance you can do this, and we were put to the test. Jo Dee was traveling to Utah for a show today, so I spent about an hour yesterday with her preparing all the meals she would need for her trip. We all know that it is nearly impossible to eat healthy when traveling, so we didn't take any chances. We packed her meals for the next two days, and she brought them with her on the plane...blender and all! We made a check list so when she got up this morning at 5am to head to the airport she didn't forget anything, and all of her food made it through security!
While Jo Dee is in Utah she will still be sticking to her meal plan and workouts. She took her 21 day fix DVDs, and shakeology with her, and called ahead to see if there was a gym with weights at her hotel. Even on the road she is able to stick with the plan! I am crazy proud of her!
Day 2 is almost done, 19 to go!
